June is FULL of sunshine, and that’s why it’s so fitting that we are celebrating Marion Clark as our June Betty of the Month!

The one your fave Marion Sea Glass Charm and Earrings are named after, Marion, is not just a momma, surf enthusiast, and community leader; she is a true force in and out of the water and is truly passionate about surfing, community, and people.

It’s been a while since we last checked up on Marion (2021). She is still the strong, passionate woman we know and love today. Marion continues to be involved in the surf community immensely. Not only running her own surf program for the youth, Surf Bus Foundation, but also constantly volunteering at her daughter’s school, judging surf contests, and building up her local surf community.

Marion is a leader full of strength, heart, and pure stoke.

Let’s catch up with Marion and see what she’s been up to over the past five beautiful years, and wow, what a heartwarming and inspiring few years it’s been.

“At the end of May, I [got] to judge the Queen of the South Bay in Manhattan Beach, and this coming October, I will help Girl in the Curl put on their second Queenie of Doheny.

Peak experiences like contests can give us valuable insight into how we’re coming and going in our surf journey (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually). I like bringing humor to stressful situations to help the grommettes transform their anxiety into excitement and a rad learning experience.”

“My daughter is in kindergarten, and this year, I spent a lot of time volunteering at her school in the classroom and for PTA-sponsored events. It’s important to me that people around me know they count on me as a solid and consistent member of the village.

One of the things I have to offer all the new moms I’ve been connecting with is the joy of surfing and how it is an intergenerational tool to connect families. I am starting a new program this summer for Surf Academy called Mermaid Mamas that will meet 4 times a week while all the groms are in camp—the fun is not just for the littles, and it’s never too late to learn something new!”

“I am helping the underclassmen plan a big community party and silent auction (May 31-June 8) so we can fundraise to create a scholarship fund for families who need financial assistance to join the surf team, and a fund to make our 6-yearly community surf contests for middle and high school-aged surfers, Ohana Nalu Surf Series, free for all entrants.

The surf team and the accompanying contests are a vehicle for local youth to create community pride and be in service by sharing their surf/ocean safety skills. We want to make it more accessible for anyone/everyone who wants to try it!”

“I’ve also had a lot of full-circle moments this year with former employees and students.

I have run into people I haven’t seen in decades who shared stories about how their time working with me at Surf Academy shaped the rest of their work life, or how they parent their children now that they have their own families.

I got a letter recently from an about-to-graduate senior who wasn’t able to join the team this year because his music commitments were in conflict with practices, but he took the time to write me a beautiful note about what all his years on the team have meant to him. I took a photo of the letter (it’s above), and on my finger is a custom Betty Cairn Ring with two pieces of glass gifted to me by another student who graduated this year.”

“My goals [are to] go on two surf trips this year, one with my girlfriends from Textured Waves and one that I plan with/for all the Mermaid Mamas who will surf with me all summer. It would be radical to plan a surf retreat for us, either here in California or one of my favorite surf destinations in Central America or Hawaii.”

Kaelynne has come up with some very exciting goals she’s aiming for! Here are just a few goals that she has on her horizon:

“Graduate from high school in October this year. Since transitioning to independent studies for my junior year, I am now graduating high school early!

Finish my Chevy K10 truck, which I have been building together with my dad, which is inspired by the truck my dad built when he was in high school.

Keep working and growing within the Betty Belts family. I’ve made new friendships and really enjoy going into work and helping customers find pieces they love.”

Meet our April Betty of the Month, Nya Hudspeth!

One of our newest additions to Team Betty, Nya, a San Diego babe, is always full of stoke and sunshine. Originally from Oahu and now living in San Diego, she’s built her life around the water whether that’s surfing clean waves, studying marine biology, or just soaking in time by the coast. From long days in the lab at Scripps to hanging at Bing Surfboards in Leucadia, Nya keeps a balance between work, passion, and fun.

With trips to places like Costa Rica, a dream stop in New Zealand, and her first Mexi Log Fest coming up, she’s stepping into some exciting moments ahead all while staying true to herself and the community around her.

Nya is such a natural fit for Team Betty — real, driven, and deeply connected to the ocean. 🌊

Here’s a little of what Nya has to say…

“I’m a surfer from Oahu, Hawaii, but I currently live in San Diego, where I moved to study marine biology at the University of California, San Diego! When I’m not surfing, you’ll either find me in my lab at Scripps Institute of Oceanography or working at Bing Surfboards in Leucadia.”

“In my lab, we aim to further current understanding of deep-sea pelagic food webs using a blend of empirical diet and biochemical tracer tools. Meanwhile, at Bing, I get to kick it with the raddest people and sell some of the most beautiful surfboards around! I also love to spend my free time reading, and I’ve been on a big sci-fi kick for the past few years. The ‘Red Rising’ and ‘The Sun Eater’ series are two of my faves, and I always appreciate a good recommendation!”

“So far, my favorite surf destination has been Costa Rica. I’ve visited the past two summers and had the opportunity to surf Pavones each time, which was so exciting as a goofy footer! Additionally, as I’m writing this, I’m in the airport waiting to head to New Zealand! It’ll be my first time visiting, and I’m going to surf Raglan, which is another sick left point that’s been at the top of my bucket list.”

“Later this year, I’m so excited to be competing in my first Mexi Log Fest! I’ve followed the event for such a long time, and I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to score an invite to the 2026 edition. After meeting so many rad ladies at last year’s C Street Classic and at the SuperGirl Pro, I can’t wait to make more connections and to represent Team Betty to the max!”

As February rolls in, we’re thrilled to catch up with our February Betty of the Month, Emma Stone!

It’s been a little while since we last checked in with Emma — she was our Betty of the Month back in 2020! A talented surfer, adventure seeker, and beloved Betty team rider, she radiates stoke wherever she goes. This San Diego beach babe has been traveling the world recently, and we love watching all of her adventures. From Hawaii and France to Australia and Indonesia, Emma truly knows how to travel and live her best life.

Her energy is like a sun-soaked beach day — warm, uplifting, and full of love — leaving everyone around her inspired, happy, and ready for the next adventure.

Always chasing life’s simple joys (hello, glassy, sparkling waves! ☀️), Emma embodies everything we love about being a Betty — sweet, adventurous, and full of heart.

“My most recent fave surf/beach/nature adventure was Australia last year. It was always a dream trip, and although we didn’t get the best waves, I think my favorite place I’ve ever been is now Australia.”

As we ease into the colder months and the days grow a little shorter, there’s one person who continues to brighten our space with the warmth of a summer afternoon… and that’s our December Betty of the Month, Heavenly Silerio!

Heavenly brings energy, kindness, and a spark that makes every day feel a little lighter and a lot more joyful. Her smile and laughter always light up the room, making everyone around her feel welcome and cared for.

If you’ve stopped by the shop recently, you’ve probably had Heavenly help you try on rings or hunt down the perfect Betty piece. She brings a gentle sparkle to every interaction — thoughtful, patient, and always excited to help you find that perfect Betty piece.

Beyond the shop, Heavenly’s creativity shines! She is a talented nail artist on the side, known for her attention to detail and beautiful hand-done designs.

When it comes to her favorite Betty design, Heavenly admits it’s hard to choose just one because “everything is so pretty,” but right now, she’s loving the new Mekaela Shell Hoop Earrings. She says, “I loved putting them on display and being able to see all of the different textures and designs that each shell has.”

She also cherishes simple, joyful moments like watching the sunset with her closest friends (especially if cute photos are involved) and starting her day with an iced coffee in hand.

Reflecting on the year, Heavenly shares, “My goal for the year was to surround myself with positivity and trust that God will guide me into good places (Jeremiah 29:11). I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the year with such kind and loving friendships — especially with all the amazing Betty girls I got to meet this year.”

As the leaves turn and fall wraps us in its cozy charm, we’re so excited to shine a little extra light on our November Betty of the Month — Jacklyn Lambert!

If you’ve visited the shop, you’ve probably seen Jacklyn’s friendly face behind the counter. She brings that same warmth and positivity to everything she does — full of sweetness, care, and a genuine love for life.

A country girl through and through, Jacklyn finds joy in the simple things: wide-open spaces, time spent outdoors, and moments shared with the people (and animals!) she loves most.

Whether she’s helping customers at the shop, hard at work chasing her dream of becoming a large animal vet, or off on her next adventure, Jacklyn embodies that balance of heart, determination, and down-to-earth grace that inspires us all.

Here’s a little about Jacklyn, in her own words… 🧡  “At the moment I’m currently enrolled in college working my way on to becoming a large animal vet.”

“My most favorite recent adventure was a quick camping trip to Yosemite! I love hiking, exploring, and fishing whenever I get a chance to — especially with some of my favorite people.”

“I also love working with or around horses whenever I get a chance. That is something I am so grateful to be a part of whenever I can!”

Jacklyn’s words capture her perfectly — adventurous, kind, and full of heart. Her love for animals and the outdoors reminds us to stay grounded in what brings us joy and to appreciate life’s simple, beautiful moments.

With golden evenings and summer around the corner, there’s a fresh energy in the air and Sophie Vanderwyk @sophie__vanderwyk12 brings that same light to the Betty HQ.

She’s a true do-it-all kind of girl. From greeting and helping customers with warmth and care to creating the cutest hand-drawn signs, fixing things around the shop, and bringing her thoughtful eye to displays, Sophie’s presence is calm, creative, and full of heart. She is quite literally a lifesaver, always one step ahead and ready for anything.

Outside of Betty, she’s crocheting, cooking for her favorite people, hosting, and working toward her goals. She’s currently pursuing her aesthetician license and dreams of opening a studio space of her own.

We’re so lucky to have you, Sophie! Here’s a little peek into what Sophie’s been up to lately….

“I’m really into crocheting in my free time and watching Anthony Bourdain. I [also] love cooking for my family and friends & trying fun new recipes…

“I love hosting dinner parties for my girlfriends. The latest was an evening garden party! “

“I have the best friends who are always my biggest supporters and spending that quality time with them never gets old. I want to travel somewhere I’ve never been before, and check off some bucket list places!

“I’m also a registered minister and would love to see myself be a part of more of people’s love stories this year!My goals for the current year are to get my aesthetician license, build my client base, and hopefully this time next year, I will be looking for a studio space of my own. I’m so grateful to be a part of this tight knit Betty family. I’ve made the most kind and genuine friendships and I’m so blessed to have each and every one of the girls in my life.”
