Bright Friday 2017

This year on the day after Thanksgiving…

It’s Betty Belts Bright Friday
20% of our gross sales
(online and in-store)
will be donated directly to
Food Forward, Ventura County Chapter

Why we created Bright Friday and the No More Black Friday credo

Every year, we choose to raise the bar on the first “shopping day” of the Holidays, by hosting one of our Betty Belts Cause Days.

Bright Friday is now a Betty Belts tradition.

This is why:

Bright Friday allows us to come together as a Community, and through the act of shopping for our loved ones, generate benefit to people in need.

On this awesome day, you’re invited to delight in choosing treasured BB gifts from the sea that speak to the people you love, and simultaneously share your kindness and generosity during the Holiday season as 20% of all money spent on those purchases will be donated directly to Food Forward.

Food Forward rescues fresh local produce that would otherwise go to waste, connecting this abundance with people in need, and inspiring others to do the same.

How They Do It:

They collect fresh fruits and vegetables that would normally go to waste from backyard fruit trees, public orchards, farmers markets, and the downtown Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. Food Forward staff and volunteers rescue 300,000 pounds of surplus produce each week and 100% of these fresh fruits and vegetables are donated to over 300 hunger relief agencies across 8 counties in Southern California. The food they recover reaches over 100,000 people a month across Southern California through their diverse distribution partners.

Why they Do It:

According to the NRDC, up to 40% of food in the United States is wasted. At the same time, 1 in 6 individuals lack adequate access to food. Food Forward presents a simple solution to this disparity by connecting surplus produce with the food insecure people in our communities.

We think of it as a Christmas card filled with love and impact, to the rest of the world, from all of us.

You can further support the amazing work these devoted folks do in helping feed our local community by donating directly.

Thank you for helping us continually make a difference in so many people’s lives by supporting our small business.

With loving gratitude,

Donna & the Betty Belts/Ocean Ohana Family

Update: we raised $670. Thank you to everyone who participated. This means so much to all of us!
