April Betty of the Month: Annalie Ilagan

With beautiful color blooming and sunshine vibes rising, April brings one of the most vibrant months here in Ventura. Matching this awesome energy is our own Team Betty Rider, Annalie @annalieilagan! She’s a supremely sweet soul, but make no mistake– she’s a graceful force making a beautiful impact in and out of the water. Here’s what she has been up to … 

“My most recent favorite surf/beach/nature adventure was when I picked up my brand-new cherry red longboard from Wayne Rich @waynerichsurfboards (the absolute best!)…it was LOVE at first ride. The waves were perfect, and somehow, no one else was out. It was just me, my board, and the open ocean. There is something about getting to know a new board that feels like a fresh chapter…

“I’m really into following where God is leading me in child development and education. I recently started subsitute teaching K-12, and in my free time I volunteer in an infant and toddler classroom… I’ve loved every moment of it. Advocating for inclusion is something I’m [also] deeply passionate about- which is why I am so excited for FLOW Surf Academy’s second season starting this April! I will be returning as Beach Lead Safety, working alongside my Betty teammate Kim Murphy and her dog Pancho! I believe every individual is created in God’s image, wonderfully made with unique gifts and strengths. That belief fuels my passion for supporting individuals with special needs and creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered… 

“I’ve also been working alongside Donna for the Betty Belts Surf Team!As the Betty Belts Surf Team Manager, working alongside Donna has been an absolute honor. Her heart for the Betty community and the ocean is beyond inspiring, and through this role, I’ve gained an even deeper appreciation for what it means to uplift and support those around me! These ladies are not only incredibly talented in the water but also powerful, driven women beyond the waves. It’s about more than just surfing…it’s about building a sisterhood, lifting each other up, and sharing the stoke in a way that extends far beyond the lineup.

“My goals for 2025 are to truly live in the moment and trust in God’s timing. Whether it’s in the classroom, in the ocean, or in everyday interactions, I want to be fully present, knowing that every moment is part of God’s greater plan. This year, I want to say “yes” to the things that set my soul on fire, take risks even when they scare me, and trust that I am exactly where I’m meant to be.”
